New pot-handling system for Gärtnerei Klein – Efficiency at the highest level

Further investment in Mayer at Gärtnerei Klein

Following the successful commissioning of the first TM 1610F in 2018 and the addition of a combination of a TM 2400DR and a Domino printing system in 2023, Wilhelm Klein is once again setting new standards in modern production processes with its new facility. As part of this project, the nursery has now been equipped with a completely new, state-of-the-art pot handling line.

The installed line consists of the following main components:

At the heart of the system is a high-performance TM 2400DR combined with a BZ 6160. The system is complemented by a buffer table and a return table, ensuring a continuous and efficient material flow. The entire system was designed to allow for flexible switching between potting and moving operations at a central location – a key advantage for optimizing work processes.

A combination of preparation and pot filling

Special attention is paid to gentle substrate preparation: The bale breaker BZ 6160 breaks up the compressed substrate and ensures a uniform, structurally stable consistency. This process is supported by an intelligent laser light sensor that continuously monitors the substrate level and ensures that the potting machine is always supplied with the optimal amount—neither too much nor too little.

The TM 2400DR boasts a capacity of up to 7,000 pots per hour and is designed for both dual and single-pot modes. This allows for flexible processing of a wide variety of pot sizes up to 26 cm – a significant boost in versatility for the operation.

Time savings through automated irrigation and labeling

An integrated irrigation tunnel WT 8000 ensures that freshly potted plants can be transported directly to the field without the need for immediate watering. This creates additional time windows and significantly streamlines workflows.

The system also sets new standards in the area of labeling: The Domino Ax 350i printer enables plant passports and EAN codes to be printed directly onto the pots – without the need for pre-printed labels or time-consuming changeovers when switching varieties.

Top-notch handling

The system is complemented by high-performance PT 5000 buffer tables, which ensure the smooth transport of pots both to the field and back to the facility. They play a key role in increasing efficiency and decoupling individual work steps.

Summary

With this new facility, Gärtnerei Klein is investing not only in modern technology, but above all in future-proofing, flexibility, and sustainable production processes.
